Dowel Pins
Introduction
Dower pin are to either to
retain parts in a fixed position or to preserve alignment. Under
normal conditions a properly fitted Dowel Pin is subject to shearing
strain only. Hollow Dowel Pin replaces heavy assemblies of Nut and
bolts. hence it is also called as All Purpose Fasteners. Also Hollow
Dowel Pins are generally called as Spring Pins.

Tolerance
The nominal diameter of
sleeve is also the nominal diameter of the receiving bore. Tolerance
on the receiving bore shall be H12. We recommended use of hydraulic
pressure in assembling the Dowel in order to minimize damage to the
receiving bore and the pin.
Material
Dowel Pins are
manufactured out of Spring Steel 75 C 6 as per IS 2507 - 1975.
hea-treated to 47 to 51 HRC. (Also see note)
Surface
Finish
Generally all Dowels Pins are thermally blackened. We also
provide Zinc and Phosphate surface protection.
Resilience and
Recovery Test
Resilience and recovery shall be tested by driving
the sleeve ten through a hole of nominal size, within the tolerance
zone H6 in a hardened steel plate of St 60. The maximum reduction in
the oversize of the diameter shall not exceed 50 percent of the
oversize in delivery condition. For example, the outside diameter
shall not be less than 20.25 mm on reduction from 20.5 mm for a
spring dowel pin of 20mm nominal diameter.
Quality
Assurance
All Dowel pins are thoroughly inspected for Dimensions
like Outside Diameter, Inner Diameter, Length, Length, Thickness,
Longitudinal gap, Chamfer Length and Hardness according to IS:5988,
DIN 1481 or as per party's specification. Dowel are checked for
resilience and recovery test in order to ensure better service
life
Note
We manufacture Dowel Pins of Ø 18mm
Nominal in En 45 grade. Also please note that the resilience and
recovery Test is applicable to Dowell made of En 45 grade
only.
Please see Table 1 and Table2 for Preferred Lengths and
Tolerance of Length respectively. Any other length tolerance can be
